Gravure Printing: Ink Smearing Issues and Solutions

Gravure printing, abbreviated as gravure, features thick ink layers, vibrant colors, high saturation, high print durability, stable print quality, and fast printing speed. Therefore, gravure printing has always been the primary printing method in the domestic flexible packaging printing industry.

Gravure Printing: Ink Smearing Issues and Solutions

Ink smearing occurs when the ink from the previous unit is dissolved or transferred onto the plate of the next unit. This phenomenon may be caused by poor drying properties of the previous ink, insufficient temperature and airflow in the drying chamber, or excessive printing speed, which prevents complete drying of the ink. High pressure from the impression roller can also contribute to this issue.

 Solutions for Ink Smearing:

Increase the proportion of fast-drying solvents in the ink.

Raise the temperature and airflow in the drying chamber to enhance drying.

Reduce the pressure of the impression roller.
